Export

The print dialog opens with exactly the pages of the preview. Choose Save as PDF (or "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the printer. In Chrome and Edge, untick "Headers and footers" if the browser offers it. The text in the PDF stays sharp and can be selected.

My documents

Click a document to open it. They are stored only in this browser - nothing is uploaded. Clearing the browser's site data removes them, so download the ones you want to keep.

AI Assistant

Let any AI write with you - ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or the AI in your coding tool. Nothing to install.

  1. Click Copy prompt. It contains short instructions for the AI and your current document.
  2. Paste it into your AI and write what it should write or change.
  3. The AI answers with a link. Click it (an AI that can open your browser does that itself) - the document appears in this editor. Undo takes it back.
What should the AI do?

You can also say it in your request, e.g. “write a cover letter as a new document” or “change the document Report”. New documents appear under My documents.

AI agents that work in your browser (WebMCP) can use the editor's tools directly - read, write, find problems, undo - without links.

The document travels inside the link after the “#”; that part is never sent to a server - not to ours either. What you paste into your AI is handled by its provider.

Save to your server

The editor can send each saved version to your own server (a webhook), so your work is kept where you want it. Nothing is sent until you enter an address here.

Help

How it works

  1. Write LaTeX on the left - or start with New and one of the templates. The preview on the right shows the typeset pages as you type.
  2. Click any text in the preview to jump to its place in the code. The place where the cursor is gets a frame in the preview.
  3. Document on the right sets paper, font, margins and title; Insert has ready-made pieces (lists, tables, math, symbols, pictures); Outline lists the sections.
  4. Problems in the code (a missing }, an unknown command) are listed above the code - click one to go there.
  5. My documents (the folder button at the top left) lists every document kept in this browser.
  6. Export makes a PDF (via the print dialog), pictures of the pages, an HTML page or plain text. Download .tex saves the code.

The preview is the editor's own typesetting and understands the commands most documents use. TikZ drawings and fontspec fonts are not shown - the code stays valid LaTeX that compiles with pdflatex.

Typing \begin{name} and pressing Enter adds the matching \end{name}. Brackets { [ ( and $ close by themselves around a selection.

Write LaTeX online, with a live preview

The LaTeX Editor shows your code and the typeset pages side by side. Whatever you type appears on the pages right away - headings, lists, tables, math, footnotes and references - and a click on any text in the preview takes you to its place in the code. That makes it quick to write letters, exercise sheets, reports and flyers without installing TeX.

Everything runs in your browser. Documents are not uploaded, there is no sign-up and no advertising.

What the editor can do

Code with highlighting

Commands, environments, math and comments in their own colors, line numbers, automatic \end{…}, and a clear list of problems with their line.

Pages as they will print

A4, Letter or your own paper size, the margins of the standard classes or of geometry, page numbers, footnotes at the bottom of the page and the Latin Modern fonts of LaTeX.

Math

Inline and displayed math, numbered equations, align, matrices and the symbols of amsmath - typeset with KaTeX, right on the page.

Tables, figures, references

tabular and tabularx with rules and merged cells, figures with captions, \label and \ref, table of contents and bibliography.

Pictures

Drag a picture into the editor and use it with \includegraphics. Pictures are kept with the document in your browser.

Export

PDF through the print dialog, every page as PNG, JPG or WebP, one HTML file, plain text, or the LaTeX source with its pictures as ZIP.

How it works

  1. Start - choose a template under "New", open a .tex file or paste LaTeX code.
  2. Write - type in the code; the pages on the right follow. Use "Insert" for tables, lists and math.
  3. Export - save a PDF, pictures of the pages or the .tex file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my document uploaded?

No. The editor runs entirely in your browser. Your documents and pictures are never sent to a server, unless you set up a webhook to your own server yourself.

How do I get a PDF?

Click "Export", choose PDF and click "Print / Save as PDF". In the print dialog choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. The pages come out exactly as in the preview, with selectable text.

Does it need a TeX installation?

No. The editor typesets LaTeX itself in the browser. It understands the commands most documents use - sections, lists, tables, figures, math, colors, footnotes, references. TikZ drawings and fontspec fonts are not shown; the code stays valid LaTeX that you can compile with pdflatex at any time.

How do I add pictures?

Drag a picture into the editor or choose Insert > Pictures. It is stored with the document in your browser and used by \includegraphics{name}.

Where are my documents saved?

Only in your browser. Click the folder button at the top left (My documents) to open, rename, duplicate, download or delete them. Clearing your browser's site data removes them, so download the ones you want to keep - or let the editor send them to your own server ("Save to server").

Can an AI write in the LaTeX Editor?

Yes, any AI - ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or the AI in your coding tool. Click "AI Assistant", then "Copy prompt", paste it into your AI and say what it should write. The AI answers with a link; click it and the document appears in your editor. "Undo" takes every change back.

Can I use the editor on my own website?

Yes. Embed it with an iframe and exchange documents with postMessage, or let it send every saved version to your server with a webhook. Click the cloud button at the top for the details.

Does the LaTeX Editor cost anything?

No. The editor is free, without ads and without sign-up.
