Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026

1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing on this website is:

Grünwald Innovation
Sebastian Grünwald
Birchstrasse 6
8212 Neuhausen am Rheinfall
Switzerland

For questions about data protection, please contact privacy@giit.ch or write to the address above.

2. Principle

Based on Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution and data protection law - in particular the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) - everyone has the right to privacy and to protection against misuse of their personal data. Personal data is treated confidentially and is neither sold nor passed on to third parties.

3. Scope

This policy applies to the website latex.giit.ch with the LaTeX Editor and all its pages.

4. Hosting by lima-city and server logs

This website is hosted by lima-city (Germany). When you visit the site, lima-city records technical access data in log files:

This data serves exclusively the technical operation and security of the systems. We do not link it to individual persons. The servers are located in Germany, a country with an adequate level of data protection under Swiss law.

Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing and securing the website (Art. 31 para. 1 FADP / Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR).

5. Your documents stay in your browser

The LaTeX Editor runs entirely in your browser. LaTeX code you write, open or paste, pictures you add, and all exports (PDF, pictures of the pages, HTML, text, ZIP) are created on your device and are not sent to any server - unless you set up saving on your own server yourself (see below).

So that your work is not lost when you reload the page, the editor keeps your documents ("My documents": their names and code) and your settings (layout of the areas, zoom, light or dark theme, webhook address) in your browser's local storage (localStorage), and the pictures of your documents in the browser's database (IndexedDB). This data does not leave your device. You can remove it at any time in your browser settings ("Clear site data").

AI Assistant (optional). "Copy prompt" puts instructions and your current document on your clipboard; nothing is sent anywhere. If you paste it into an AI service, that service processes it under its own terms and privacy policy. The AI answers with links that carry the document after the "#" sign. Browsers never send this part of a link to a server, so the document does not reach our server when you open such a link. Documents that arrive in several parts are kept in localStorage until all parts are there.

Saving on your own server (optional). If you enter a webhook address under "Save to server", or open a link with ?webhook= and allow it, the editor sends the document (name, code, pictures) directly from your browser to that address. We do not receive it. The operator of that server is responsible for what happens with it there.

Embedded in other websites. Other websites can show the editor in a frame and exchange documents with it. The document then goes between your browser and that website; its operator is responsible for it. The editor's own pages are still loaded from this server.

Files from a link. A link with ?src= makes your browser load a file from the address in the link; that server sees the request.

6. Cookies, analytics and third-party services

This website sets no cookies. There is no web analytics, no tracking and no profiling. Fonts (Latin Modern, KaTeX), scripts and images are loaded only from this website, not from other servers.

If a document you open yourself refers to pictures on other websites (\includegraphics with an https address), your browser loads those pictures from there for the preview. That depends on the document, not on this website.

7. Contact by email

If you write to us, we process the data you send (address, name, content) to handle your request. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time.

8. Your rights

Within the scope of the applicable data protection laws, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Please contact privacy@giit.ch.

9. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe that the processing of your data is unlawful, you can lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, edoeb.admin.ch) or with the supervisory authority of your country of residence.

10. Changes

This policy is updated when necessary. The version published on this page applies.
